Gilbert Arenas was fined $50,000 for faking a knee injury Tuesday.
The “injury” allowed him to sit out for the team’s preseason game against Atlanta that night.
This isn’t exactly the way you want to redeem yourself if you’re Arenas. He said that he wanted to give someone else more playing time, but who really knows? Arenas went through the apologies again — just like when the incident with the gun in the locker room. (and he really is sorry. No. Really.)
How many chances will Arenas continue to get? You can call this petty if you like, but it’s not really about what he did this time. This, in a sense, is the same type of stunt he pulled last December.
I don’t have a problem with him wanting someone else to get some more playing time. He just needs to go another way about it. This just shows, to me, that he hasn’t learned anything from the gun incident. He can apologize all he wants, but that’s no longer good enough.
